Hang Strips and Your Window Frames: Interior Shutters

Interior window shutters can fit over just about any window. If they do not immediately match up with your window frames, it is not a difficult job for a contractor to make it possible. Interior shutters are essentially just screwed onto hinges, which in turn are screwed into the jamb (side of the frame) of your windows. These hinges swing outward and allow you to easily open your shutters and fold them back if you would like your windows open to sunlight and ventilation.

If your window frames aren’t deep enough and don’t allow for your shutters to easily be screwed into place, hang strips can also be installed. These are thin pieces of wood which are screwed into place over the edges of your window frame to create a slightly deeper opening for your shutters. Hang strips will also help if your window frame is a bit too wide. They can be installed on the sides of your frame, inside it and just in front of your windows. This effectively narrows your window frame slightly and allows for a smooth open and closing motion when your shutters are manipulated.
