Interior Shutter Measurements

When you are contacted by a professional contractor in your area with a free interior window shutter quote, he or she might ask that you make some measurements of windows on which you would like shutters installed. It is not necessarily as simple as just measuring the area of all the window frames. There a few dimensions you should keep in mind.
- The width of each window area: measure each separate window frame individually, and divide by the number of shutters you think you will want. Don’t measure every single inch of window you’d like to have shutters on, but do each space on its own.
- Realize that you will need 1/16 of an inch on each side for the hinges and 1/16 in the middle to give enough clearance between the panels.
- Measure the depth of your window frame so that your contractor will know whether he or she will need to incorporate hang strips in your frame.
- Find out what the total height of each window is and measure it. If you would like a two-tiered shutter, divide the height by two.
